Eucatastrophic Photos: Nummist Celebrities

Dame Precious Puss-Puss Paws

Dame Precious Puss-Puss Paws (pictured below) is Curator of our Eucatastrophic Photos: Nummist Celebrities gallery. Her profound sensibilities uniquely qualify her for this role.

Puss-Puss. by Joseph Howse. May 12, 2004.

Purple-eyed or not, she is forever bigger than "the pictures" could be.

Puss-Puss devoted her life (1987-2004) to teaching, washing and cherishing her family, feline and primate alike. When she was around one year old, she lost an old cat friend named Pooh II but then she poured her heart into raising two adopted kittens, Leo and Sackville (both below). They turned out pretty well, even though Leo gave up washing and Sackville never seemed to quite figure out an effective way to communicate his feelings to Puss-Puss. (Anyway, she probably knew and enjoyed the mystery.)

With her humans, Puss-Puss enjoyed playing in tapwater, eating mint toothpaste and sleeping on tummies. Anytime someone cried, she would come running and stay until it got better. She stretched one of her slender hind legs when she wanted to ask for something—usually, to go outdoors.

She loved heights: support beams, bookcases, an insulated attic, the upper branches of elms. She also walked on thin ice. Amazingly, these fits of romanticism never brought her into harm's way. As an elderly lady, she was kept away from heights and icy seas but her heart would pound after brief escapes past her outdoor enclosure.

Dame Puss-Puss Paws is now in Nummist Paradise, where she serves as Executive Director of Admissions.

Rt. Hon. Leo Lazy Lion, Esq.

Tongue and Grass. by Joseph Howse. 2004.

Variously known as Plumpy, Mr. P, "the King", "the Aged, Aged Man" and "the Nummist Methuselah", this staunch squire and techno-evangelist offered the most complete feline gospel of the earthly ministry of Dr. L. S. River, NummNumm. Although Leo initially greeted the Nummist advent with considerable skepticism, he converted in an epiphany that concluded 17 years of cross-examination and debate (1988-2005) between him and Dr. L. S. River.

Leo attributed his serenity and longevity (1988-2007) to appetite, energy conservation and meditation. Once (May 2007), he was laid sorely ill by stroke but recovered over the weekend through spiritual concentration.

Leo was the founding genius of Poohbist Technology.

Dr. Little Sackville River, NummNumm

Pride. by Joseph Howse. August 17, 2004.

A cat who needs no introduction, Dr. L. S. River, NummNumm, is nothing less than the Prophet and Avatar of the One Numm. Rescued in kittenhood from an unfit home, he not only overcame his trauma but has also gone on to reshape the Universe. All of this, along with charming anecdotes, is recounted in the 1988-2005 entries on the Nummline: A Chronology of Cat History & Cat Worship.

Robert Warren Howse

Cat Eyes, Hat Eyes. by Joseph Howse. December 24, 2006.

Bob is an astoundingly handy Nummist. His design and implementation of an escape-proof outdoor cat enclosure (with rock garden, handmade benches, climbing / prickling pole and artificial pond!) brings daily pleasure and safety to High Priestess Plasma Tigerlily Zoya. His cat-height portable stairs helped NummNumm get in and out of bed.

An avid reader, Bob keeps Plasma company on her midnight vigils.

Dr. Samuel William Johnson Howse, PhD

Dr. Sam. by Joseph Howse. May 23, 2007.

Dr. Sam (1980-2008) was the father of Nummist rationalism. At the age of seven, he began learning and teaching about computers—one of the many outlets he found for his creativity, his sense of adventure, and his desire to make things right.

He was the best computer scientist for anything from designing provable programming languages to helping families learn to use the computer.

His mind and heart constantly went exploring for something new and better. His readings about veterinary and medical science helped save Nummist lives many times.

Nummist cats always found that Sam knews how to make very fun and addictive games. Games are very important both to Nummist rationalism and to Nummist family values.

Ah, the photographer's eye...!

Caution. by Joseph Howse. March 7, 2005.

Joe loves writing, photography and graphics—his best tools to explore the world and Numm's mysterious ways. Numm added to the mystery (since mystery motivates Joe) by having him study French novels and poetry, finance, international business and international development too.

A determined gamer, entertainer and scientist's assistant, Joe is never far from the lab of Dr. Sam.

To the best of his abilities, Joe diverts his feline friends with conversation, audiobooks and photo shoots. Every camera in the world loves cats—and cats know it.

Please check out more of Joe's writing, photography and graphics on the rest of nummist.com and Eucatastrophic Creations. Also, for more on Sam and Joe's work, feel free to visit Nummist Computer Consultants.
