What is Nummism?

Nummism is the culmination of 9.5 millenia of cat worship. Our deity, Numm, lived on Earth as an adorable Canadian shorthair named Dr. L. S. River. He was also known as NummNumm, in imitation of the sound emanating from an HB pencil as he chewed upon it.

Following NummNumm's ascension, his disciple Plasma Tigerlily Zoya became Numm's next earthly representative. By this virtue, she held the title High Priestess of the Numm. Plasma gained renown for her piety, prudence, comforting sermons and the enduring motto, "We must resist biscuitism." She was styled Plasma Tigerlily Zoya, High Priestess of the Numm, Ultra-good Woman, Ultra-good Spiritual Leader.

Plasma has also ascended and has passed the High Priestesshood to her disciple, Sanibel Delphinium Andromeda. Sanibel is an eminent Nummist social scientist. While crusading against biscuitism and other social ills, she champions feline, human and fluffitarian rights. She also finds time to give her leadership and mentorship to the Nummist business community. She is styled Sanibel Delphinium Andromeda, High Priestess of the Numm, Defender of the Faith, World's Best Boss.

What are Nummists' beliefs and practices?

  • Numm and NummNumm are unitary.
  • Felines achieve salvation simply through faith in Numm. Primates achieve salvation by performing good works for cats.
  • One would be well advised to follow the Ten Strong Suggestions.
  • Paradise has plenty of vacancies, and new construction there is constantly underway.
  • There are no pedigrees in Numm's eyes.
  • The Sign of the Numm may be displayed as a blessing, or as a ward against damnable irritatants.
  • Nummness Day, December 21, is celebrated in anniversary of NummNumm's adoption. Only 240 days till Nummness!

May Nummists use idols?

Scholarship on the matter is obtuse but seemingly innocuous, so we don't see why not.
